New house: progress update

April 07, 2021

We have a dining room table! That is the update. Look at it, isn’t it nice? The runner is a textile from Tulum that we bought ages ago now in the hopes of using it some day in a scenario just like this. The lemons are from our tree outside in the backyard. We have about half a dozen fruit trees outside and a never-ending source for citrus now. We only have 4 chairs now, but we’re going to expand that pretty soon by ordering two more of these CB2 Alpha brass chairs (and some butt pads, TBH).

It took months to get it because it was a custom ordered walnut table from Hedge House and it was worth the wait. Now that it’s here it is even more beautiful than when we were taping out the dimensions on our pretty new white-washed hardwood floors.

Question:
Do people typically put rugs underneath dining tables?
Do we have to?
Do you have one under yours?
Is there a reason why so many inspiration photos from interior design magazines do it beyond aesthetics?
What are the rules for something like this?

These pressing questions are queued in my brain, just behind processing the emotions of actually having a dining table that can sit my entire family down for a meal. Once we’re all vaccinated (which is soon!) we will be reunited and I cannot wait.

Everything is pretty minimal over here at the house these days, which I’m hoping can stay. Aside from this one little corner of our dining room and kitchen, Nick and I haven’t had the time to really look at furnishing or even unpacking some boxes because we have spent every single living weekend since last summer working on selling our first home. This weekend we finally finished the work and we are bruised and elated and now kind of nervous that it’s up to the whims of the crazy real estate market.
