Exposure Way Down

December 29, 2020

There’s a go-to routine I work through when I’m editing my photos; I turn down the exposure, I bring down the bright whites, then tone them, and then up the dark spectrum so that the blackest it ever gets is a not-quite-pitch-black black, and then bump up the contrasts, tone the highlights, low lights, and mid tones further and then play with the contrast relative to sharpness. I do this to make the photo feel more comfortable, like it’s familiar and soothing.

This house designed by Patrick Bernatz is just like that, but in real life. It’s such a mind blowing moment just now threading that line between my preferred way of handling my own photography and the possibilities of styling my new house using the same techniques.
